Thanks to all who came out last night for the UPHA general meeting to hear about the Unified Development Ordinance Update and the three projects currently under consideration in and around our neighborhood. We had an attendance of 61 people with 38 votes cast on each project (one vote per household).
Special thanks to Travis Crane, Senior Planner for the City of Raleigh, for his great overview of the UDO and to our UPHA committees who researched and reported on each of the projects, as well as the developers who came to answer questions about their proposals. Please see the vote tallies and neighbor requests below.
- 616 Oberlin Rezoning (Z-035-12)
I support or have no objections to the proposed project: 27 votes
I oppose the proposed project: 9 votes
I neither support nor oppose, but would like more information: 2 votes
UPHA will make no objection to this project.

- Belltower Hotel Rezoning (Z-036-12)
I support or have no objections to the proposed project: 30 votes
I oppose the proposed project: 4 votes
I neither support nor oppose, but would like more information: 4 votes
- Neighbors request a visual representation of the project’s height vis-à-vis the belltower.
- Neighbors request that the project remain a hotel and not revert to student housing in the future as occurred with the prior Hillsborough Street hotel
UPHA will make no objection to this project, but will forward neighbors’ requests to the developer.

I support or have no objections to the proposed project: 5 votes
I oppose the proposed project: 31 votes
I neither support nor oppose, but would like more information: 2 votes
- Neighbors request that the project’s height be scaled back from seven to five stories.
UPHA will make a request that the project’s height be scaled back from seven to five stories.
